Slow Cooker Salisbury-Style Steak Bites. This is pure comfort food with almost zero effort.
Slow Cooker Salisbury-Style Steak Bites
Serves: 4
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 4-6 hours on LOW or 2.5-3 hours on HIGH
Your 4 Ingredients
-
1 (28-32 oz) bag frozen beef burger patties (unseasoned, about 6-8 patties)
-
1 large can (18 oz) beef gravy (or two 10.5 oz cans)
-
1 packet (1 oz) dry onion soup mix
-
1/4 cup bottled steak sauce (like A.1., HP, or Lea & Perrins)
-
Optional but recommended: 1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms and cracked black pepper
Instructions
1. Load the Slow Cooker:
No thawing necessary. Place the frozen beef patties directly into the bottom of your slow cooker. It’s fine if they’re stacked or overlapping slightly; they’ll shrink as they cook.
2. Mix the Sauce (Right in a Bowl):
In a medium bowl, whisk together the canned beef gravy, dry onion soup mix, and bottled steak sauce until the onion soup powder is completely dissolved. If you’re adding mushrooms, stir them in now.
3. Pour and Cook:
Pour the sauce mixture over the frozen patties, making sure they’re all well coated. Cover and cook on LOW for 4-6 hours or on HIGH for 2.5-3 hours.
4. Break into Bites:
About 30 minutes before serving, open the lid and use a sturdy spoon or spatula to break the now-tender patties into large, bite-sized pieces directly in the sauce. Stir gently to coat the pieces. This is also a perfect time to taste the gravy and add a generous amount of cracked black pepper. Cover and let them continue cooking for the remaining 30 minutes so the broken edges can soak up even more of the rich gravy.
5. Serve:
Serve the steak bites and gravy ladled over one of these perfect vehicles:
-
Creamy mashed potatoes
-
Wide egg noodles
-
Steamed white rice
-
Thick-cut toast (for an open-faced diner-style sandwich)
Tips for This 4-Ingredient Wonder
-
The Gravy Matters: For the richest result, use a high-quality, thick canned beef gravy. If the gravy seems too thin at the end, whisk 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water, stir it in, and cook on HIGH for 15 more minutes.
-
Make it Salisbury: The classic Salisbury steak flavor heavily relies on mushrooms. Adding a cup of sliced fresh or drained canned mushrooms makes a huge difference and feels like a second vegetable.
-
Patty Options: This works with beef, turkey, or even plant-based frozen patties. The long, slow simmer tenderizes them all beautifully.
-
From Thick to Bite-Sized: The frozen patties hold their shape during the first part of cooking. Breaking them up at the end exposes more surface area to the gravy, making every piece fork-tender and deeply flavorful.
